Mumbai: The Purple Foodie Baking Classes 2014

February 23, 2014

baking class mumbai

Hello Everyone!

I am happy to say that I’m back home in Bombay for a short trip and I’m going to be conducting a few baking classes! Yet again, my suitcase was weighed down with all the cooling racks, cake pans, rolling pins, sea salt and whatnot because I was wanted to share with you some recipes and tricks inspired from my time at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and London and working at a few restaurants in Europe over the past couple of years.

On Friday the 28th of February, 2014, I’m going to set myself up at the Eighth* studio in a quaint bylane just off Carter Road in Bandra and I hope you can join me. If you are interested in attending, then please sign up by emailing me on shaheen@purplefoodie.com and I’ll help you with the registration.

Last year’s classes were so much fun and I can’t wait to do it all over again. Here’s a look at the photos from an earlier Purple Foodie Baking Class as well as a little TV clipping of when NDTV came in to shoot us.

This is the only set of classes that I plan to conduct in 2014. If last year’s response from 200 baking enthusiasts attending is anything to go by, I expect the seats to fill quickly so let me know soon and I’ll get back in touch on a first-come, first-serve basis.

*About EighthEighth is a baking studio by Le Cordon Bleu graduate, Anurita Ghosal. Everything here is baked fresh to order. Here’s a look at their menu. Place your order the day before, and pick it up between 4PM and 8:30PM. You can pop-by pick your order, have a coffee with them and enjoy some music while they continue baking. They’re also set to offer more baking classes.

Glad to see that you’re back Shaheen :-)
But WOW!! your class prices have shot up through the roof!! I did both your classes last year (and paid 2600 each) and they were a lott of fun.. and yummmy too. But have you consciously kept the fees higher this year to deter too many people from joining?

Thanks, Renuka! :)

I’m so glad you enjoyed the classes! To clarify, the classes last year were priced at INR 2800. I did not price it higher to deter people from signing up – and given the swift sign-ups that’s hardly the case. These recipes include lessons I’ve learned in the past year in Paris. You’d pay a lot more for this anywhere else in the world.

I’m sure rates are determined by what the market will bear……but Bombay seems as expensive as any Western city. A 4-hour baking course at the Cordon Bleu in Ottawa is $170 (works out to $130 for 3-hours). Other colleges and cooking schools in Toronto charge $75-$100 for a 3-4 hour course which includes take-home of products made.
