I haven’t really decided what my dream kitchen is going to be like, it’s more of a work in progress. I keep changing my mind every once in a while. Here’s a rough idea of how my dream kitchen is going to be.
Let’s start with surroundings. A view of pure silver sands and the ocean would be perfect. The lashing sound of waves in harmony with the chirpy sound of the birds does some good to the ears. I’ll have a backyard full of organically grown herbs, fruits and vegetables.
As you enter the kitchen from the backyard through the French window, you’ll see a lot of colour. Colour from the fruits freshly picked, colour from seasonal flowers in the vase, colour from the sun at dusk. Lots and lots of colour.
The kitchen will exude warmth. I don’t like the flashy silver kitchens that look like you’re cooking in a space ship. My kitchen would have to have wooden flooring. A small coffee table by the window for me to enjoy my evenings being one with nature or simply sitting and whipping up some fresh cream to be had with strawberries that evening. And while I’m at it, the wooden wind chimes will sing a song of their own.
I will have a walk in pantry where everything anybody would ever need is stocked, and there would be no expiry dates! Then there will be huge cabinets where I will store all my fancy china and dinner sets. My spice rack and exotic herbs will be on display and they will be sourced from my various culinary tours around the world. Along with that, I’d have a special section for all my fancy equipments. And yes, I would have got the molinillo by then to make my hot chocolate with. Some of my favourite food books will sit pretty on a rack for quick reference.
I’d have a lot of special tools, which any chef’s kitchen is naked without. My equipments would include:
- A double oven
- A big freezer to make tubs of ice cream and sorbets
- An enormous fridge that also makes ice at the door
- A Kitchen Aid GOT IT!
- A dish washer
- A wine cooler (after having done a course in wine tasting from France)
- A bbq grill for the summers
- A clay tandoor oven
I think that’s about it for now.
