After much procrastination I got down to making my first challenge as a Daring Baker – the Bouche de Noel; and not once but twice in a row! This happened because I was so caught up in looking for the exact size mentioned in the recipe (10×15 inch) that I completely forgot that it wouldn’t fit in my table top oven! Yet, I tried pushing it into the oven and had it placed at an angle- only to find one half thick and undercooked and the other end crispy. This went into the trash and my post got postponed by a day.
Here is what I made this morning in jiffy. I had the butter cream, marzipan and the filling ready yesterday, so all I had to do was bake the cake, fill it, roll it and finally decorate it. I was in such hurry to get this done with and reach office that I didn’t find the time to make it look pretty (and that’s why the small photograph:P). After this I promised myself not to push my challenges to the last minute. :)

There were certain things that had to be followed strictly, and there were some modifications allowed. Here is how I made changes to the recipe to suit my taste:
- Made a chocolate flavoured butter cream
- Omitted the liqueurs
- Used a melted chocolate filling, and halved the butter cream frosting
