La fin

I can’t believe it’s the end of my first term at Le Cordon Bleu, Paris. Yesterday, was our last demonstration at school that was made memorable with a fire drill and some champagne in plastic cups. From cutting four fingers all at once while slicing fennel  and learning the perfect soufflé with my favourite chef  […]

Life, right now

According to my phone, my life is a mishmash of new market finds, school life, Paris, what I’m eating for Sunday morning breakfast, psychedelic beets, Friday Lunches, Dutch cheese, stroopwafels and other random things. If you’re using Instagram, leave your username in the comments section, or follow me if you like what you see. Bonne soirée!

Day One

4:38… Not yet. 5:28. A little while longer. And then, finally, the alarm went off at 6:15, and I jumped out of bed for my first day of school… The school of my dreams. The school for which I was awarded the James Beard Scholarship. First. Day. Today. So excited was I, I kept taking photos […]

Parisian Hot Chocolate

A little while ago, I had hot chocolate at the famed Angelina in Paris. It was the most expensive hot chocolate of my life at €7.20. Served in a pitcher with a small pot of whipped cream, the hot chocolate is what dreams are made of. The hot chocolate at Angelina (L’Africain) is rich and smooth, […]

Know Thy Fromager

You know how they say that that the French are loyal to their boulangerie and fromagerie? I found that a little hard to understand because you wouldn’t expect that in a country where you’re never too far away from good bread and cheese. That was until I figured out just how important it is to […]

Roasted Butternut Squash with Pine Nuts and Crème Fraîche

I love that living in France, I never run out of things to be fascinated with. My food fixations so far have been châtaignes à la vanille slathered on toast, Speculoos spread straight from the jar, roasted chestnuts, crème fraîche dolloped on or dipped into, crunchy(!) Speculoos spread (from the jar again. Move over Nutella), fresh hazelnuts, and now, butternut squash.

Fresh Hazelnuts

Can you imagine my delight when I found these at the supermarket? Much sweeter than the ones we’re used to, and so much fun to crack open and eat straight out of the shell. These can be roasted to bring out their nutty flavor, too. A while ago, I found newly harvested hazelnuts with their papery […]

Life updates over a plate of chestnuts

I think we need to sit down and have a chat. Over some roasted chestnuts. Because that’s what I’m obsessed with these days. Before one of you jumps up and asks me, “Oh! where do you get these in Bombay?” you’ll figure where soon enough. There have been a lot of things that have happened […]
