Postcard from The Lake District

Grasmere Gingerbread

I’m currently holidaying in the picturesque Lake District in England. Lush meadows, scenic bedroom views, long drives, and picnics in the boat are the order of the day.  Today, we visited the famed Grasmere Gingerbread shop that has been making gingerbread every single day since 1854. The story goes that the original handwritten recipe is locked away in a bank vault.  The tiny place has people lining up to buy their share of the fiery, crumbly gingerbread dotted with pieces of candied ginger.  Of course, I can’t wait to try to replicate the gingerbread in my kitchen.
