Fall Favourites

November 1, 2011

Canteen, London

I was in London for a few days and I did all my favourite things. Had my first real scones and clotted cream at Canteen (the chairs are so pretty), walked around Covent Gardens, drank up all the Elderflower presse I could, baked cake with my favourite cousins, ate sticky toffee pudding, walked through the park and photographed ducklings, brought home more sticky toffee pudding, stuffed my bag with enamelware and vintage kitchen equipment I found in tiny stores. On my visit to Borough Market, I quickly snapped a few shots of the market in case you’d like to take a peek. Although my bag was bursting at its seams, I bought another copy of the Flavour Thesaurus because you never say no to bargains.

I thought I’d share with you some really great resources online I’ve been stumbling upon lately:

I’ve been pinning away gorgeous things I find on Pinterest, in case you want to keep up with more cute things I find around the web.

Hi Shaheen, first of all, congratulations on all counts:) I first read about you in Grazia and have been following your blog but never commented. I love your blog: your warm writing style and the gorgeous photos! I’m in awe of your baking skills. I’m a pretty bad baker and I’m trying to overcome my fear of it, your resourceful posts should help! All the very best to you, keep baking, keep taking pictures and keep posting :) You’re an inspiration to all those who are at a crossroads and want to take that plunge into doing something they truly love.

Thanks, Meenakshi! As clichéd as it may sound, I just did what I wanted to without really bothering about how “safe” it is or if there’s “scope” for it in the industry. I get people asking me those exact questions and find it hard to explain to them because I never thought that way to start off with.

Thanks, Radhika! And thanks for that reminder. Went off to London and the FAQ page slipped off my mind.

Oh my god, clotted cream. It’s one of those things that sounds disgusting but is so amazing and so deadly. A Brit friend of my has orders to bring a tub back for me the next time she goes to England.

I’m kicking myself for not bringing some back. But gosh, I’m enjoying eating crème fraîche straight from the tub.

Hey Shaheen!

That beet video has been one of favourites ever since it came out! love it. That video and Sala(@veggiebelly) made me add Chocolate Beet cake on my mustmake list. Now all I wanna do is make baked mini chocolate beet doughnuts :D and then do a happy dance…

Your blog and story make me smile…
Have a great time!

Hi Juelle, Thanks for the wishes. I bought all the vintage stuff from thrift stores in the SE London suburbs. Sorry, the magazine is only available in India.
