In the Wine and Dine Section in the Crest Edition, is an article that provides a “grazing platter of delicious food blogs” and The Purple Foodie is one of them! I am tickled pink to be mentioned alongside some really amazing food blogs (wohoooo!)
For those of you outside India, the Times of India is India’s #1 newspaper in terms of circulation, with 3.14 Million copies circulated daily!
The Purple Foodie belongs to a purple colour-loving Shaheen Peerbhai who works with a bakery. There are no simpering excuses of ‘secret recipes’ here. Knowledge and discoveries are generously shared, like a post in which she substitutes yeast for baking powder and comes up with “an amazing, light, lavash-like cracker in a lot less time than lavash”. All her posts are garnished with striking visuals. Sample her post on apple muffins: out of focus chrysanthemums add a blurb of magenta next to bright green apples lined up near scrumptious apple cinnamon streusel muffins; all are offset by a blue tablecloth and a book in shades of yellow, parrot green and pink.
Much thanks to the author, Rushina Munshaw Ghildiyal.
PS: Sorry about the excessive exclamation marks.

Hey Purple girl! Happy you are excited! Was well deserved!
I ate at this fab new place in Singapore. 2 AM Dessert bar it is called. It is a bar devoted almost exclusively to desserts and the occasional tipple but what desserts…. More like art on the plate… Anyways there was one called Purple it was inspired by a painting the owner did. It reminded me of you not just for the purple but also because it seemed like something you would do… made me think of you so I took a picture and will send it to you….
Congrats! This is great news

You absolutely deserve all the exclamation points possible! I’m glad you’re getting recognition “outside of the virtual world.” I hope you are written about more and more in the future =)
congratulations S – very very well deserved indeed, so happy for you !!!
Hi Shaheen, I had read the article, and have been visiting your blog. Love it, especially the visual appeal:-) But I haven’t dared to bake yet! I have two children. My daughter is 5 years old who loves chocolate and cake, so I am eager to bake. My son is only 2 months old and it will take me some more time before I can start experimenting with baking. I don’t even own an OTG or microwave oven, and am planning to invest in a Microwave convection grill oven and hope to use it for baking as well. Would you recommend baking in such an oven?
Thanks, Shreya!
I’m not a fan of microwave ovens because they don’t brown the cakes well and added to that, that they only get heated from the top. I have an OTG which I love because it gives me fantastic results. I have a Nova OTG oven.
I was introduced to your site via Times Crest and really loved your photos and food.
i have tried herb butter mushrooms..they are my partner’s fav now..
I m looking forward to making the hasselback patatoes and the stuffed eggplant..
It was really suprising to find that you are from mumbai.. I am from mumbai too and miss it immensely..
